Guatanamo Bay By Anna Perera

Older Teens 15+
When fifteen year old English boy, Khalid is on holidays with relatives in Karachi, he is arrested. Khalid is interrogated and tortured before being sent to the infamous Guantanamo Bay.
Anna Perera is quite graphic in her writing about the details of Khalid's physical and emotional torture and the horror of his imprisonment.
However the message that comes across clearly in her novel is that nothing is simply black and white. It is not as clear cut as being good or bad. Us soldiers are not all tarred with the same brush. Everyone imprisoned in Guantanamo is not deemed to be innocent or guilty.
This is an overwhelming story, that is seamlessly paced. Older Teens will find it a rewarding read.
