Blackrock Institute of Further Education and Blackrock Library wins Conservation Award from the Irish Georgian Society! 

CONSERVATION PROJECT and ORIGINAL DRAWING AWARDS 2014

The Irish Georgian Society revealed the winners of its Architectural Conservation & Original Drawing Awards 2014 at an event in the City Assembly House on the 8th of October. Announcing the Awards, Dr. Edward McParland highlighted the very high standard of conservation projects submitted and considered by the judging panel and celebrated the partnership of owners, architects, and builders in realising these works.

  Blackrock Institute of Further Education and Blackrock Library shares the award for Conservation Project winner with the Guildhall in Derry. 

McCullough Mulvin Architects designed and project managed the renovation of Blackrock Library.

The Library re-opened to the public on the 16th of June 2014 following extensive refurbishment. The library, which celebrated its centenary in 2005, has been fully updated, modernised and extended while enhancing the original features of this protected Carnegie building.

New features include:

- Mezzanine area

- Extended public internet service

- Self-service facilities, including printing (on site, mobile and from home)

- Greater selection of books, CDs and DVDs

- Study facilities

- Separate reading room - ideal for book clubs, browsing magazines and relaxing

Blackrock Library Reopens On Bloomsday!

Seamus O'Neill Colm Keegan, dlr Writer in Residence for 2014-2015, chatting with local poet Gerard Fanning at Blackrock Library Blackrock Library opened to the public yesterday on June 16th, Bloomsday, at 10.00am! We welcome back all our library users! Come and see the beautifully updated, modernized and extended library on the site of the Town Hall complex which also accommodates the Blackrock Further Education Institute (BFEI).  Architects McCullough Mulvin carried out the redesign and refurbishment. An Cathaoirleach Cllr. Marie Baker said " I am delighted that the people of Blackrock and the wider dlr Library community can avail of this bright, spacious library with its enhanced public internet and self-service facilities and most importantly the extended selection of books, CDs and DVDs. The attractive Reading Room area will undoubtedly be a much sought after space for regular book clubs, storytelling sessions and for students and readers alike." A sneak peek at what's in store for Blackrock Library 2013/2014

Blackrock Old Town Hall & Carnegie Library 

Work is progressing well on the refurbishment of three old buildings dating back to the early 1900s – the Blackrock Technical Institute; the Carnegie Library and the Municipal Technical Institute. An adjoining three-storey over basement building is also being constructed. The new structure will be approximately 3,630sqm in size with 250sqm of atrium and garden space. It will complement the existing structure of approximately 1,790smq. Senior College Dún Laoghaire will move to the new premises and will be known as Blackrock Further Education Institute, and the County Council Blackrock Library will also be incorporated in the new building.
