Ida B:And Her Plans to Maximize Fun, Avoid Disaster, and (Possibly) Save the World by Katherine Hannigan
Ida B is a nine year old only-child who lives on farm with her parents and her pets. She has given each apple tree on the family land a name and holds long conversations with them. She is home schooled and finds life “righter than right”. When her mother, also Ida, falls ill with cancer, Ida B finds out how fragile promises can be. She must resume attending public school and some of the farm is sold for building. Ida B feels angry about both these events and resolves to let both her parents and new classmates know how she feels. This is whimsical story, with a central character that has an idiosyncratic way of talking and is an accessible and gentle read for those over 7.
