Traumatised by a narrow escape at the hands of a psychopath, Detective Cassie Maddox transfers out of the murder squad. Possessed by nightmares and fear, the only good part of her life is her relationship with a fellow detective Sam O'Neill. When Sam calls her to the scene of his new case, she is shocked to find that the murdered girl is her double. What's more even more frightening, her ID shows she is Lexie Madison - the identity Cassie had used years before, as an undercover detective.
With no suspects, no leads, and no clues to Lexie's real identity, Cassie's old boss Frank, spots the opportunity of a lifetime: send Cassie undercover in Lexi's place, to tempt the killer out of hiding to finish the job.
This is a good read. It flows easily and the characters are strong and believable.
The story is rather far fetched: the chances of a police detective having a doppelganger who ends up a murder victim does somewhat stretch the boundaries of possibilities.
However this suspension of belief does not detract from the enjoyment of the novel.
I found this an excellent book to help pass the two hours a day I spend commuting on Dart
