Coldplay have been promoting their new album 'Ghost Stories' due out later in May in a very innovative way. The band placed Chris Martins' handwritten lyrics for each of the nine songs off the album into books of ghost stories in libraries in 9 locations across the globe; Mexico, Singapore, Finland, Spain, England, New Zealand, US, South Africa and Ireland, and then posted clues to their whereabouts on their twitter account..A golden ticket was placed with one of the lyrics sheet that gave the finder and a friend a ticket to one of Coldplays gigs in London on July 1.
One of our own users in dlr libraries, Colma Ni Bhriain from Dalkey, found the handwritten lyrics to the new song 'Midnight' yesterday in a book by Cornelia Funke in Dundrum Library of all places
Colma didn't win the golden ticket to the gig in London but enjoyed the excitement of tracking the ticket down and owning a genuine handwritten Chris Martin lyric sheet.
Would you have deciphered the location of the lyrics to Midnight from this clue??:
"Rejoyce and get Funke-y! Are you two bloodthirsty. In the capital of the black pool, look where they've done a drum, 14"
We at dlr libraries think its a fantastic idea, a great way to promote not Coldplays new album to their fans and on social media. Coldplay have recognised public libraries as the accessible open public spaces that they are worldwide by basing their treasure hunt there!
Watch this space, Coldplay have given dlr libraries ideas for their own treasure hunts :)
