SUMMER READING BUZZ

dlr Libraries will be running the very popular ‘Summer Reading Buzz' across the summer months in 2014.

This will be our third year running this hugely popular reading initiative and our numbers have been growing year on year with 1200 registering in 2013 and over 630 certificates issued upon completion of the Summer Reading Buzz.

This initiative is a great way to keep children reading during the summer months, which not only develops their literacy skills, building on the learning they have acquired during the school year but also encourages a raft of other skills through reading, such as, introducing concepts, stimulating imagination, boosting confidence, the list goes on.

Starting on Wed 11th June, children can go to their local dlr library and register. They are given a membership card for the 'Summer Reading Buzz' and given stamps each time they read a book. There are incentives given all along the way. When children have read ten books, they post their membership card in the hives in branch libraries and all are entered into a draw for some great prizes. Children can enter the buzz as many times as they like, the more the better!

Another reading initiative that gives great support and encouragement to our young readers is: www.readingchampions.ie
