Don't miss the chance to vote for your favourite Irish book - voting is open until November 18th 2012 on the Irish Book Awards website.
There are eleven different categories, this year there's a new category for cookbooks and somewhat confusingly three collections of short stories are nominated in the category for novels. Declan Burke has lots of interesting things to say about the Crime Fiction category over at his blog Crime Always Pays. You can vote for your favourite titles directly through the website and the winners will be announced on November 22nd.
The list is a run down of the best and most popular Irish books published this year so it could be handy for anyone who's looing for bookish Christmas pressies (too early?).
Or, if you're looking for something new to read most titles are either in stock already in dlr Libraries or are on order.
Every year there's a few surprise winners, but these are some of the people we think are in with a chance for prizes in 2012:
Edna O'Brien for her memoir Country GirlKevin Barry for his book of short stories Dark Lies the Island
Marian Keyes for her novel The Mystery of Mercy Close
Atlas of the Great Irish Famine
Tana French for her crime novel Broken Harbour
Chris Haughton for his picturebook Oh No, George!
We're looking forward to seeing if any of our predications are right!
